Happy New Year Local 1882 Member, Friends, and Families!

As we start off 2023, your Local 1882 Executive hopes that you were able to enjoy a break over the holiday season. Reflecting on the year that just passed, it has been a busy one! Being that Covid is still something that is top of mind for some; the Local 1882 Executive decided not to host any indoor social events for 2022 as we were unsure of what would happen as we moved back in doors with the fall/winter. Hopefully in 2023 these events can return!

Some highlights of the past year: Local 1882 sponsored Cambridge Celebrates Winterfest and had a display during Unsilent Night, donated money to the Cambridge Foodbank as well as the remainder of the progressive winnings from General Membership meetings to Cambridge’s Haven House. We awarded a $500 scholarship to a child of a member who is entering post secondary school; hosted an outdoor picnic event in August; launched eight (8) grievances on behalf of members to name a few.

This past year was also an extraordinary year for welcoming several new members to our Union as well as leaving the city as they started their next adventure in retirement. ‘Welcome’ and ‘Congratulations’ to you all!

In the fall we had Executive Officer elections where we said thank you to two (2) officers who stepped down from the Executive board and welcomed two (2) new officers to our ranks. We are still looking to fill the Chief Steward role – so if you are curious or interested, please reach out!

And lastly, thank-you to all the members who volunteer their time on joint committees with the employer. It is not always an easy task to balance the workload, but you have done a great job representing your fellow members on these joint initiatives.

As we get under way planning for 2023, we are looking forward to what the New Year brings.

Your Executive board wishes you all the best for 2023.

In Solidarity,
Jennifer
